ATTENDANCE POLICY

Students who do not attend the first two meetings of a Tuesday-Thursday course or the first three meetings of a Monday-Wednesday-Friday course will be administratively disenrolled. This is a College policy. For summer school, it translates as the first regularly scheduled meeting.

Students are expected to attend every class period and contribute actively to the class; all absences from class will be recorded.

  1. The accumulation of more than 4 absences during the term will result in failure of the course.
  2. Only unavoidable absences that interfere directly with a student's ability to submit assignments by their due dates should be discussed with the instructor.
--Whenever possible, notify the instructor personally of an unavoidable absence from class, by phone or WebCT e-mail.
--For extending the due date on written assignments, a student must notify the instructor no later than the due date.
--For being authorized to given an oral report at a make-up time for credit, a student must notify the instructor on or before the due date.
  3. Students must assume the responsibility for their absences from class. FAILURE TO ASSUME THIS RESPONSIBILITY MAY RESULT IN BEING DENIED THE PRIVILEGE OF MAKING UP MISSED WORK.
--All excuses absences (legitimate medical emergencies or prior class conflicts, discussed with instructor) must have supporting documents.
--Upon returning to class, a student who has been absent should find out what material was presented in class during the absence.
--Unexcused late assignments must be submitted to the instructor, but they will receive no credit.
