Attendance Policy:
Class sessions will be in seminar format with all students present and participating. We meet once a week, and attendance is both expected and required. The expectation in graduate school is that students who have chosen to study in a particular graduate program are serious enough about their study not to require an attendance policy. The requirement in this course is that scholarly activity involves both writing and discussing differing ideas, testing one's views in the "marketplace of ideas." One cannot develop as a scholar without participating in the scholarly debate. Students who have difficulties with this policy should discuss their concerns with the instructor at the beginning of the term.
