CCC STARTS THE NEW SEASON IN STYLE

Tuscaloosa, June 15: CCC made short work of University of Alabama Huntsville here Saturday, beating the visitors by 83 runs in the first one-day fixture of the season at the Quad.

CCC's captain Raj Saha, won the toss, and elected to bat. CCC openers Praveen Agarwal and Anand got the hosts off to a steady start, putting on 30 runs for the first wicket in just 5 overs. This was a perfect launching pad for the batsmen to follow. Couple of quick wickets brought the Man of the Match Sanju Jacob (77) to the crease who along with Raj Saha (30) made mince meat of the UAH bowling attack.

Sanju looked in good touch facing 38 balls with four sixes and six fours. Trying to score runs of each and every ball in the closing stages of the match Sanju was eventually out in the second last over of the CCC’s inning. But the happiness of UAH didn't last for long as the batsman who followed Sanju, Amitab Shah hit three six's in the last over. This left the UAH team to score a imposing total of 164 to win in just 20 overs at a rate of 8.2.

Meanwhile UAH openers Madan and Manish put on an untroubled 28 for the first wicket. But CCC regained control when Madan (20) was caught by Sanju off Tapan trying to force the pace of the match.

From there on Raj Saha (2/9) and Ravindra Vijaysundra (4/12) bowled an excellent line and length. Specially Ravindra Vijaysundra bowled a nagging line and frustrated the batsman. CCC picked up wickets at regular intervals the batsman and UAH were eventually out for mere 81 runs in 17 overs.

At the request of UAH team a friendly match of 16 overs was played on the same day, which turned out to be very good practice match for both the teams. To try some new players CCC made a couple of changes in its team. CCC won the toss again and elected to bat again. The captain experimented with the batting order which back fired leading to a colla pse and managed to score 93 runs in 13 overs. Again the top scorer was Sanju (26) and Gopal (21) who gave him a good support at the other end.

CCC came back in the match with a very disciplined bowling and fielding. As Ravindra Vijaysundra was not playing this match CCC fell short of one regular bowler. Raj Saha bowled his heart out and bowled an excellent spell for which he was rewarded with 3 wickets and got CCC back into the game. Eventually the match ended in a thriller when 7 runs were required of the last over. The winning run was scored in the second last ball of the match. UAH won the match in 15.5 overs. Though the game was just a practice match, both the teams played very well to make it very interesting for the spectators.
