MARK D. NELSON
Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Studiea

College of Communication & Information Sciences
Dr. Nelson is the
Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Studies in the
College of Communication and Information Sciences
at The University of Alabama. Additionally, he
serves as the Director of The Basic Course and as
an Assistant Professor in the Communication Studies
Department. Committed to student enrichment, Dr.
Nelson developed a three-tiered leadership program
for students which includes the College
Ambassadors, The Student Executive Council, and the
Academic Honor Council.
Dr. Nelson provides
consulting services for numerous organizations and
governmental agencies throughout the Southeast. His
training repertoire includes such topics as Public
Speaking, Listening, Group Dynamics, Leadership
Development and Team building. His research
interests include leadership, interpersonal
communication competence, and diversity. Recently,
Dr. Nelson was recognized by his peers as the Knox
Hagood Outstanding Faculty Member and by the
students of the University as The John Blackburn
Outstanding University Advisor.
