Session 1

Participants received an overview of the study

Read high-threat essay

Group discussions were held to discuss main themes of the essay

Watched video focused on young women previously diagnosed with breast cancer

Group discussions were held to discuss main themes of video

Reviewed main themes covered during session 1

 

Session 2 (2 days later)

Participants received a brief overview of main themes covered in session 1

Watched American Cancer Society BSE video

Watched Susan G. Komen BSE video and completed online quiz

Group Discussions were held to discuss main themes of BSE videos

Experimenter provided brief lectures highlighting both sessions

Completed coping modes questionnaire

Filled out demographics questionnaire

Received American Cancer society shower cards

Postcards were distributed with e-mail address for additional information

 

Follow Up (3 month)

 

Coping modes questionnaires were e-mailed to participants

Recorded behavioral measure (BSE frequency)

Debriefing and hypothesis guessing forms provided via e-mail after 6-month follow-up
