Pedagogically-oriented publications:

Prof. Visscher is the author of an undergraduate textbook, "Fields and Electrodynamics" (Wiley, 1988), which introduces electrodynamics through the use of real-time solutions of the Maxwell equations such as those of the "Real Time Maxwell" package (below). These are based on a simple discretization of the Maxwell equations introduced in:

"Discrete formulation of Maxwell equations", P. B. Visscher, Computers in Physics 3,42 (1989).

"Real Time Maxwell" (Maxwell-equation simulator and user's guide), P. B. Visscher, Physics Academic Software (American Institute of Physics, 1991). Received Honorable Mention in 1991 Computers in Physics software contest.

Schroedinger equation simulator

Download zipped 1D Schroedinger simulator with manual. Gives the user a choice of several wavefunction and potential files, then solves the time-dependent Schroedinger equation. Shows wave packet scattering from square wells and barriers, motion in a harmonic oscillator potential and the Bloch oscillator (see Kittel, Intro. to Solid State Physics, Ch. 8).
