In March 2005 AFI was honored to host the rebound Israeli novelist Savyon Liebrecht. Mrs. Liebrecht examined the everyday lives in Israel as an Israeli citizen and writer through her short stories. The event was made possible through the Consulate General of Israeli in Atlanta and through the great support of the Birmingham Jewish Federation. The event was co-sponsored by Alabama Friends of Israel student organization and the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society.
About the speaker:
Savyon Liebrecht (b. 1948, Munich, Germany) was born to Holocaust survivor
parents who soon after immigrated to Israel. She studied Philosophy and
Literature at Tel Aviv University and began publishing in 1986. She writes
novels, stories, television scripts and plays. In 1987 she received the
Alterman Award for her first collection of stories, and two of her television
scripts received awards as well.
