Philanthropy
In 1904, 11 women created an organization that would provide educational, philanthropic and leadership opportunities for women. The Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation was created in 1962 ensuring that the Fraternity's mission would live on into Alpha Gamma Delta's second century, allowing women of all ages to make positive differences on their campus and in their communities--leaving a legacy for generations of women to follow.
Since 1979, diabetes has been Alpha Gamma Delta?s philanthropic focus. Through The Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation, large grants are made annually to organizations and individuals for diabetes research, treatment and education. The Foundation also supports educational programming for members and selected non-members, including personal development topics such as health, alcohol and drug abuse prevention, scholarship, eating disorders and stress management.
Our Annual Cook-Out to support Juvenile Diabetes through The Foundation was a huge success this year. The Sigma Nu front lawn was a great setting for our event and hundreds of students, family, and football fans supported us on the Friday night before the LSU game. Our burgers were a hit and we raised over $2600 for the Foundation. Thank you again to our generous sponsors and the Alpha Gam House Staff.
In March, we hosted a silent auction during Parent's Weekend to support The Foundation. Among many other items. we auctioned off a football autographed by Alabama coaches and players, a hand painted chair, power tools, paintings and meals to some great restaurants. Thanks in large part to our family and friends, we raised over $1600.
