COACH CARL TORBUSH, DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR,

IS TONIGHT’S FCA SPEAKER AT 9 O’CLOCK

Carl Torbush was a first team All-American in football and baseball for the Carson-Newman (TN) Eagles and knew that coaching would be what God had in mind for his life.

After one year of pro baseball in the Kansas City Royals organization, he coached one year in high school and has spent the remaining years in the college ranks. While coaching linebackers and defensive ends at Southeast Louisiana in 1976-79, he was also head baseball coach and was named Gulf South Conference Baseball Coach of the Year in 1978. Since that time he coached at Louisiana Tech for four years and was head football coach in 1987.

From 1983-86, he was Defensive Coordinator at Mississippi and from 1988-97, he held the same position at North Carolina. For the next three seasons (1998-2000), he was head coach for the Tar Heels before joining the Alabama staff as Defensive Coordinator in 2001.

His defensive units at UNC were some of the best in the nation and every starting linebacker for 11 consecutive years except one, earned an opportunity to play in the NFL.

Through the years, Carl has been an active participant in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes attending many FCA camps and speaking for numerous FCA and church groups. He and his wife Janet and son Trey are active members of the Calvary Baptist Church. We are privileged to have Carl to share with us tonight at 9 at the Calvary College Annex. Come and bring someone with you.
