ANDY PHILLIPS SINGS AND SHARES TONIGHT
AT FCA AT 9 O’CLOCK
Andy Phillips, Alabama’s most celebrated baseball player, will sing and speak tonight at FCA after the Alabama-Auburn game.
Andy has served as Alabama’s volunteer baseball coach this past fall and winter. He leaves Tuesday for Spring Training at Tampa with the New York Yankees organization. This will mark Andy’s fourth season in the professional ranks.
Last year, Andy split time with the Tampa (Fla.) Yankees and the Norwich (Conn.) Navigators. With the Class AA Tampa team, he hit .302 and hit 11 home runs (both top team marks) and added 50 RBI. Tampa won the Florida State League. As he returns to Spring Training, he has been assigned to the Class AAA Columbus (O.) Yankees. A third baseman and shortstop for the Tide, Andy now plays second base.
A two-time All-American at Alabama, Andy re-wrote the Crimson Tide record book with 16 school records to his credit. He had the most career home runs (61) and ended his career with a sparkling .356 batting average.
While serving as volunteer coach, Andy has spent his remaining time with FCA speaking to junior and senior high schools groups. He was also in many churches and made other appearances where he shared his faith in song and the spoken word.
We are in for a treat tonight to have Andy share. We will start shortly after the basketball game at the College Annex, across from Calvary Church on Bryant Drive.
