COURSE POLICIES

GRADED ASSIGNMENTS

Debates and speeches should be delivered standing in front of the class with minimal notes.

These may NOT be read from a manuscript or from note cards.

These performances will NOT be accepted for A GRADE except on the date assigned, unless prior arrangement has been made with the instructor.

Essays should be neatly typed and double-spaced (standard margins and spacing).

NO WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT will be accepted for a grade or credit after the due date, unless prior arrangement has been made with the instructor.

Students who develop a habit of being late to class may have their tardiness counted against them.

COLLEGE OF COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION SCIENCES

Students who do not attend the first two meetings of a course will be administratively disenrolled. This policy does apply to this course.

Communication majors must earn a "C" or better in all required and elective courses in the major. A "C" or better is required in all external courses required by the major whether they serve as a prerequisite to a major course or are simply required by the major.

"A university is a place where the universality of the human experience manifests itself." Albert Einstein

In keeping with the spirit of Einstein's viewpoint, the College of Communication and Information Sciences is committed to providing an atmosphere of learning that is representative of and tolerant of a variety of cultural and intellectual perspectives. Accordingly, minimal standards of etiquette are expected for this class.

  1. No one should be speaking while someone else is expressing his/her ideas -- wait your turn and give others a fair hearing.
  2. The reading of newspapers, outside books, letters, etc. is disrespectful and unnecessary -- you will be asked to put such material away or to leave class.
  3. Students should be respectful of others' views during class discussions and performances -- you should criticize the ideas you find flawed, not the person holding those ideas.

If you believe that you cannot abide by these rules, you should drop the course and find another that seems more interesting to you.

Sexual harassment is strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated at The University of Alabama. The University's policy regarding sexual harassment is clear and explicit. It may be viewed at <http://www.ua.edu/shpolicy.html>.

Students with disabilities are encouraged to register with the Office of Disability Services, 348-4285. Necessary course-related accommodation or special needs should be discussed with the instructor at the beginning of the term.

SMOKING, EATING, AND DRINKING ARE NOT PERMITTED IN THIS ROOM. Please do not bring any of these to class with you.
