CRITIQUING MEDIATED COMMUNICATION

COLLEGE OF COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION SCIENCES

"A university is a place where the universality of the human experience manifests itself." -- Albert Einstein

In keeping with the spirit of Einstein's viewpoint, the College of Communication is committed to providing an atmosphere of learning that is representative of and tolerant of a variety of cultural and intellectual perspectives. Students are expected not only to be tolerant of different perspectives, but also interested in examining such perspectives objectively.

CLASS POLICIES

Please remember that you are expected to consult the WebCT course calendar daily and to do the assigned reading before class.

Do not expect class time to be used reviewing the reading assignments. Students must not only prepare for class, but also come ready to ask questions, to discuss the material, and to participate fully in the class sessions.

We shall be practicing making critical judgments, not reviewing answers. Everyone should get accustomed to voicing ideas and to participating in class discussions.

Please note that written work for this course must follow the MLA Handbook, the Chicago Press Manual of Style, or the APA style of documentation. Internet links to these references are given in the WebCT Study Tools module. All students need to know proper academic documentation.

All assignments are on the course schedule, and we should be able to adhere to this schedule closely. Any significant deviations from the schedule will be posted in WebCT on the Bulletin Board.

Students are responsible for meeting class deadlines. Given the time frame of Interim courses, work missed will not generally be allowed any make up. Legitimate and unavoidable conflicts should be discussed as soon as possible with the instructor. Legitimate medical emergencies which arise should be reported to the instructor NO LATER THAN THE DESIGNATED DATE and MUST HAVE SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS.
