About the Campus Band.

If you're an experienced brass musician, woodwind player or percussionist, the UA Campus Band has an open chair waiting for you! The Campus Band features around 80 musicians - mostly university students and community members - who really like to play band music. Our motto is maximum music making with minimal rehearsal. So we only meet one evening per week and put on a concert near the end of every semester!

What is the purpose of the UA Campus Band?

The Campus Band is designed to provide opportunities for musicians at UA, Shelton, and in the Tuscaloosa community to play quality band literature in formal concert settings. Our aim is to add to the cultural opportunities available to the citizens of Tuscaloosa and the surrounding areas by providing audiences with programs containing a wide variety of band music that is accessible and enjoyable to hear.

When does the Campus Band rehearse?

Founded in 2005, the band performs two formal concerts during its regular season. The “season” begins on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 7:30 pm in Room 204 of the Moody Music Building with a basic seating audition. The band regularly meets on Monday nights from 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm.

Is there an audition?

Yes, but don’t worry if you are rusty! Membership in the band is available only through a simple seating audition.

Where are the auditions?

Seating auditions will be held at the Frank Moody Music Building found on the eastern edge of the University of Alabama campus in Tuscaloosa, on University Boulevard. When you get to the School of Music go to the second floor (Room 204) to warm up and check in.

Will it cost anything to participate?

For UA students if you enroll in the Campus Band (MUA 169/269/369/469/569-015) there is no fee, otherwise, there is a small (tax-deductible) fee to participate. The cost is only $25 for the entire year!

If I am a UA student can I take Campus Band for course credit?

If you are a student at the University of Alabama, you may opt to take Campus Band as a class (look for Section 15 of either MUA 169, 269, 369, 469, or MUA 569). Students that register for the class do not need to pay the participation fee. Sign up to audition!
