October 2002:

  • Dr. Shane Street chaired a symposium on surface analytical techniques at the Federation of Analytical Chemists and Spectroscopy Societes (FACSS) National meeting held in Providence, Rhode Island.

September 2002:

  • Congratulations to Ann Visser, AIChE Separations Division Graduate Student Research Award in Extractions.
    • This highly competitive award recognizes one outstanding graduate student in each of six areas. The award in Extractions was sponsored by Dow Chemical Company. Ann will receive her award at the Separation Division dinner at the AIChE National Meeting in Indianapolis in November.
    • Ann is a graduate student in the Rogers group. Her research deals with the use of ionic liquids as potential solvents in extractions and other types of separations.
  • Dr. Greg Szulczewski was recently awarded $225,000 by the Office of Naval Research over three years for a project entitled, "Growth and Characterization of Metal Films on Nitramines."

August 2002

  • Congratulations to Jackie McPherson, winner of the May 2002 McKinley Award.
    • The McKinley award is given to University employees who by action or idea contribute to the University's mission of teaching, research, and service.
    • Jackie is the Departments Administrative Support Secretary.

  • The Masters Thesis of Brent Boudreaux entitled, "Site-directed Mutagensis Study of the Phylloquinone Binding Site of Photosystem I in Chlamydomonas Reinhardtii," was chosen as the outstanding Masters Thesis for the 2001-2002 year by the UA Graduate School.
