April 2013
- The Department is pleased to announce that Dr. Elizabeth
Papish will join the faculty as an Associate Professor in August.
Dr. Papish's research interests are focused on the design and application
of bio-inspired metal catalysts for organic transformations.
- Congratulations to the Chemistry students who received awards at the UA Undergraduate
Research and Creative Activity Conference. Sergei
Wallace (Rogers)
received 2nd Place in the A&S Natural Sciences and Mathematics (NSM)
Division Oral presentation competition. Karson Brooks (Pan)
placed third in the A&S NSM poster competition. LIndsey
Cobb (Nikles), Kevin
Duque and Nick Laskay (Shaughnessy),
and Shuwen Yue (Bakker)
received honorable mention for their posters.
- The UA Student Chapter of the American Chemical Society wasreceived a Commendable
Chapter award at the National ACS meeting.
- Congratulations to Jordyn Johnson who has been
awarded an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship that will provide up to five
years of support of her graduate studies at UA. Jordyn is a member of Dr.
Patrick Frantom's research group.

- Dr. Patrick Frantom has
received an NSF CAREER award in excess of $1 million to support his research.
The CAREER is the premiere award for young faculty from the National Science
Foundation.
- Congratulations to Dr. Arun Gupta who
has been named a Distinguished University Research Professor by the UA Board
of Trustees. UA

- Steven Kelley and MIchele
Stover have been selected to attend the 63rd Lindau
Nobel Laureates meeting. Steven is a graduate student in Dr.
Rogers' group and Michele is a member of Dr.
Dixon's group.

- Chemistry major Evan McConnell received one
of five top presentation awards at the University of Memphis Undergraduate
Research Conference. Evan does research with Dr. Busenlehner.
- Congratulations to Sharifa Love who has been
awarded an ACS Division of Inorganic Chemistry travel award for the National
ACS meeting in New Orleans in April.
