Advanced Fuel Cycle Initiative (AFCI)/ Global Nuclear Energy Partnership (GNEP) University Fellowship Program

The Advanced Fuel Cycle Initiative (AFCI)/ Global Nuclear Energy Partnership (GNEP) University Fellowship Program is accepting applications through 5 p.m. Central Daylight Time, Thursday, April 24, 2008 at www.studentpipeline.org.

Please encourage your highly motivated students who are interested in acquiring master's degrees related to the AFCI research program to read the program announcement at the www.studentpipeline.org website and apply for this fellowship.

The U.S. Department of Energy Office of nuclear Energy is offering fellowships valued at up to $45,000 each to provide support to students who will be pursuing master's degrees in the Fall of 2008 in engineering, chemistry, physics, or radiochemistry.

Preferred undergraduate degrees include Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Engineering Physics, Applied Physics, Chemistry, Nuclear Chemistry and Radiochemistry.

* Up to nine Fellowships will be awarded in 2008.

* Fellows will receive up to $45,000 for up to 18 months, which includes a monthly stipend and funds for tuition, fees, books, supplies, and AFCI-related travel.

* Fellows must be U.S. citizens or permanent resident aliens and must be accepted into a master's degree program by September 1, 2008.

* Fellows will generally conduct master’s degree research and have a thesis related to and approved by the AFCI program. Where appropriate, non-thesis programs are acceptable.

* At some time during their fellowship, students will be encouraged to work in the AFCI program at a national laboratory.
