ravi1.jpg (44076 bytes) The blended coke-soil-oil mixture is further diluted and introduced into the flotation cell. The pulp density of flotation cell is kept in the range of 5% to 15%.
The crux of the remediation process " Coke Agglomerates" are skimmed out. The process continues for about 1hr, till all the agglomerates are skimmed and the soil is free of most of the contaminate oil. ravi2.jpg (50432 bytes)
ravi3.jpg (56161 bytes) The remediated soil is extracted in a soxhlet extractor using toluene as solvent. The process takes around 18hrs. The resultant toluene solution is analyzed through a colorimeter for the concentration of oil in the remediated process.
"The nasty stuff" show is the contaminated soil and coke slurry just after blending. The process is done for about 10 mins in a high shear blender. float.jpg (39204 bytes)
Tao1.jpg (35147 bytes) Particle size distribution (PSD) of soil samples was analyzed by a PSD analyzer called Sendigraph 5100. PSD by x-ray sedimentation requires dispersing particles in suitable liquid. Dispersion is transferred to sedimentation cell where change in x-ray absorption is measured at decreasing depths with increasing time as particles settle due to gravity.
