| More Awards |
| We got another award tonight. The Volunteer Academy Awards was tonight, and Bob went as our rep. He said it was so named because it was fashioned after the Academy Awards. I had submitted some requested info about all our service in the past year, which was used in a database and to determine the awards. So we got the "Best Direction in Community Service Performance for Service Organizations." Yay for us. Y'all are wonderful! |
| End of the Term |
Thanks to everyone who came out to Rewarding Excellence. The weather was rough, but I was glad to see so many of you. I hope y'all all had fun. Thanks again for a great year. At the CCSO Banquet tonight, Bob was awarded the Most Active Member award in the Service category, and Pet Therapy was named the Most Creative Program overall. Sonya will begin posting here soon, but I may post another one some time soon. |
| Increase |
| Yay! Claire paid her dues tonight, so for this year, we had a membership increase! |
| March 23 |
March 23 is a big night. 1) We will not be having a regular meeting, but rather a movie night at Bob and JW's. If you don't know how to get there, please email me or Bob and we'll be happy to tell you where he lives. If you have a favorite movie, please bring it. 2) Bring your Pancake Day money. Remember, everyone owes the club $15 for their tickets. 3) Bring your can tabs. We don't have very many, and I'm sure Golden K would like a large donation from us. 4) New members, please turn in your dues this week. If you want to be inducted at Rewarding Excellence, we'll need your money by the 23rd. I hope to see you all on Wednesday! |
| Rewarding Excellence |
| The plans for Rewarding Excellence have been finalized. Our spring induction and recognition banquet will be held on Wednesday, April 6, at 8:00pm at The Dumplin' House. The cost is $10, and the dress is Sunday attire. We will celebrate the accomplishments of the past year, award outstanding members and chairs, recognize those graduating, induct new members, retire the current officers, and install the new board. It will be a good time, but I need to know by March 31 if you will be there. You needn't bring your money until that night, but I need to know for a head count ahead of time. |
| DCON Wrap-Up |
DCON was great (thanks, Steven!), and a good time was had by all. The two main purposes of DCON are to recognize club achievements and elect a new board, and our club was well-represented in both of these areas. I hope all y'all have the chance to go next year. We won several awards this year. We brought home Honorable Mention for Single Service and First Place for Kiwanis Family Relations, Service Initiative, Club Achievement, and Scrapbook. We were awarded the Man Mileage Award, Percent Attendance Award (50% to DCON), and Circle of Fellowship. We also had 10 members receive GEM awards for their service hour totals. Bob Boylan was a Distinguished Club Vice President, Anna Dickey a Distinguished Club Secretary, and Rachel Wehner a Distinguished Club President; Rachel was also named the Outstanding Club Officer. Caitlin Knowles received the Outstanding Other Administration Award, Jessica Pearce was the Outstanding General Member, and Cathy Collier received the Walker Curry Memorial Award. Bob Boylan was named the Outstanding District Committee Chair, and Steven Yates and Rachel Wehner received Governor's Support awards. Thank you all for being such great members! Bob Boylan is the new District Governor, Laura Osburn the District Treasurer, Jason Spencer the District Editor, and Caitlin Knowles the Warrior Division Lieutenant Governor. Congratulations to these board members who begin their term on April 1. |
| Undefeated |
| I can finally say the word! That's right - Circle K went undefeated in regular-season CoRec bowling. Last night, Jessica P., Laura, Bob, and Steven led us once again to victory. Caitlin and I were cheerleaders, and JW was our secret spy :) I'm not sure about the play-off schedule yet, but I'll let y'all know as soon as possible so hopefully more of y'all can come out and cheer. Yay for us! |
| Election Results |
Congratulations to our 2005-2006 club board: Sonya Hassell - President Jessica Pearce - Vice President Natalie Wrinkle - Secretary Mary Ann McMeans - Treasurer Abby Grammer - Board Member Jessica Hinkle - Board Member Britney Mitchell - Board Member Amanda Brasher - New Member Board Member During March they will be trained by the current board and will begin their term on April 1. Thanks to everyone who came out to vote, despite the nasty weather. |
| Nominations and Elections |
We had our first week of nominations last night, but we still have 2 more weeks. You can be nominated for a club office or seek endorsement for a district or international office. Remember, you MUST be present to be nominated, as you have to accept the nomination. We'll just have nominations next week, but on February 23, we'll have nominations and elections. If you're a paid member, you can run and vote. It's really important that everyone be there on February 23. The leadership for 2005-2006 will be elected, and you should be present to ask any questions of the candidates and exercise your right to vote. PLEASE make every effort to be there. If you have a class that gets out late, come afterwards, as the night will most likely be longer than an average meeting. *If you're planning on running, you'll need to have a short, prepared "speech" and be ready to answer questions about past leadership, the position you're seeking, etc. If you have any questions, feel free to email me! |
| Bring-A-Buddy |
Next week (February 16), you should Bring-A-Buddy. We'll have nominations and regular announcements, but we'll also play some games and stuff. Instead of being punished for NOT bringing someone, you'll be rewarded. We'll be going to Coldstone Creamery after the meeting, and everyone who Bring(s)-A-Buddy will earn himself and his Buddy a free "Like It." I have to be technical and say that a Buddy can only be claimed by one member, but you can bring more than one Buddy (and they'll all get a free ice cream so you don't have to decide which Buddy you like better). So Bring-A-Buddy, and I'll see y'all all next week! |
| Once, Twice, Three Times A Winner |
AGAIN, we dominated. Steven, Laura, Rachel M., and Bob bowled beautifully while Caitlin, JW, and Rachel W. cheered loudly. We beat St. Francis in both games, winning the match. WE'RE UNDEFEATED! A special congratulations goes out to Laura, who started off with a SixPack: 6 strikes in a row. Our score is also improving: we broke 500 both games which is excellent. Next week is our off week, but we'll need cheerleaders on February 23. |
| Hurricane Creek Clean-Up |
This Saturday (February 12) is the Alabama Day of Service. We'll be doing a project that goes along with the district theme of "Tree-Hugging in Alabama." We'll be cleaning up Hurricane Creek from 9-1, and there's a chili cook-off afterwards (so we stay and eat chili). They provide the trash bags, and we'll provide the gloves. We'll meet at the Ferg at 8:30. *If you want to enter your chili, let me or Bob know ASAP because they need to know ahead of time. |
| Scrapbook |
Don't forget that we will be working on the scrapbook at Steven's at 6:15 tomorrow night. If you don't know where he lives, meet at the Info Desk at 6:15. If you're going to Bryce, feel free to come afterwards. |
| Oops, We Did It Again |
That's right. We won bowling AGAIN last night! Jessica P., Steven, Bob, Laura, and Rachel M. beat HPSA both games, giving us an undefeated record. We can't be stopped! We only had the one cheerleader though (me), so please come out next week when we play St. Francis. |
| Intramural Bowling |
Yay for us! We had our first bowling match last night and won both games. After a huge mix-up with intramurals office, Steven, Rachel M., Rachel W., and Bob led Circle K to a victory. Thanks also to Caitlin, Laura, and David for their support - we always need cheerleaders. Substitutions can be made in between games, meaning that technically 8 people can play in the same night. If you want to bowl, please come out next week (unless our schedule has been redone again). Even if you don't want to bowl, please come anyway and cheer us on. We play at 9:30 at Bama Lanes on Wednesday nights. |
| District Convention |
District Convention is right around the corner, and registration is due very soon - tomorrow! The purpose of DCON is to recognize club achievements and elect the new district board of officers. It's going to be a grand time of caucusing, fancy meals, and all-around fun. The amount due tomorrow night is $35, and you will be responsible for your own hotel arrangements and cost (~$50). If you are going but do not have 3 roommates yet, please let me (RW) know ASAP, as reservations must be made by tomorrow. I will be bringing registration forms to the meeting. For more info on this great convention, please go to http://www.geocities.com/dcon2005/. I hope all y'all can go! See you at the meeting. |
| Coke Tabs |
I talked to Ray Hamer, the Golden K'er who spoke to us at the beginning of the year, a few days ago, and he was wondering about us collecting Coke tabs. I pretty much forgot all about it, but I think everyone should start collecting the tabs over the break. The tabs are for reducing the room rates at the Ronald McDonald house. He's already made one trip to deliver them, but I think that we could collect enough to warrant another one. You could put the tabs in a cup or a bag (or a gallon jug if you have enough!) and bring them to our "Baked Goods and Board Games" on January 5 at 7:30 at Bob and JW's. Thanks and have a great holiday! |
| Semester Wrap-Up |
Fall 2004 is coming to a close, and I hope y'all have a good exam week and Christmas break. First off, I'd like to thank everyone for their hard work this semester. We've completed almost 2000 hours since April, but keep working because our goal is 3500. I feel confident that we can reach this, so please keep doing service. Thanks to everyone who came to help with Luminaries last week. It's sad that the weather was not in our favor, but we were still able to collect donations from the community, so we can give Partlow a check. We had an interclub with Shelton at our Dead Week Social, and a lot of y'all were there. I hope you had as much fun as I did and walked away with a good Dirty Santa gift. Last Friday, we caroled twice, once at our nursing home and once with Shelton (where we also had an interclub and got our gavel back!). It was a good time, and I know the residents appreciated our singing. There's also another interclub opportunity with Shelton at their Luminaries this Tuesday, December 14, beginning at 10am. They'll be doing about 700 lumes, and they would love our help. They'll be lighting them around 5, so let me know if you can help. Yet ANOTHER interclub opportunity is this Friday evening, December 17, at Shelton's Christmas party. It will be at Brittany's (their president) house, so email me for directions. Lastly, on January 5 (the first day of classes), we will be having a dessert and board game social at Bob and JW's apartment in place of our regular meeting. It'll be at 7:30 at the Downs, and I'll send out a reminder (with a catchier name) closer to the date. Good luck on your finals, and I hope y'all have a safe holiday! |
| Dead Week Social |
This Wednesday, December 8, we will not meet at the Ferg, as it is not allowed. Instead, we will be meeting at Wings at 7:30. We will also be playing Dirty Santa. If you'd like to participate, bring a wrapped $5-$7 gift (not so much a gag gift). It's fine if you don't want to play, but it'll be fun. I need to get a head count so they will have the right amount of tables and chairs, so please email me (Rachel W.) with either Yes or No. I know a lot of people put question marks down, but please let me know if you're planning on coming. I hope to see y'all there! |
| Luminaries |
Provided the weather holds out, we will be doing our annual Luminaries on the Quad on Sunday, December 5, beginning at 8am. We will put sand in the bags, then transport them to the Quad. Again, depending on the weather, we will either put candles in before lunch or right before we'll light them. During the time they're lit, you're still needed to make sure the bags stay lit, man the hot chocolate table, and greet people. At 9pm, we'll stomp the bags out and finish cleaning up. It's really important that everyone is there for as long as they can possibly be. This is by far our biggest project of the year, and we get more publicity for it than anything else, so it needs to go well. We will meet at the steps of Gorgas at 8am. If you have long-stem lighters, please bring them. If you have a big cup, please bring it (to put the sand in the bags). See y'all Sunday! |
| Cook-Out Cancellation |
The weather's bad, and it's only supposed to get worse, so we're not having our cook-out today. :( |
| Cook-Out and NMBM |
Don't forget about our cook-out, this Sunday, November 21, at 2pm at Monnish Park (diagonally across from Bama Bowl). It'll be a good time of eating, chatting, throwing the football and/or frisbee, and having some good CKI fun. I hope you all can make it! Congratulations to Sonya Hassell, our new New Member Board Member. |
| New Member Board Member Election |
This Wednesday, November 17, will be the New Member Board Member election. The position is open to anyone who was eligible for induction this fall, and anyone who has paid his dues can vote. The duties include holding a weekly office hour (at your convenience), chairing a project of your choice, attending all board meetings (to be set at the mandatory December 4 board meeting), and being active on the membership committee. We have 2 nominees right now, but we will still take nominations this week. After the floor is closed for nominations, the candidates will caucus (time to be determined), which includes an introduction/speech, followed by questions. After caucusing, ballots will be distributed, taken up, and counted by advisors. The New Member Board Member will be announced before the meeting is adjourned, and they will be expected to stay for the board meeting following the general meeting. If you have any questions, please contact Rachel W. |
| Induction Wrap-up |
Thanks to everyone who came to the Induction Banquet last night. It was a good time, and both Shelton and Tuscaloosa Kiwanis brought Interclubs! If you're a new member who wasn't able to come, we'll bring your certificate and pin to the meeting so you can have it. Also, if anyone forgot to bring their cans, please bring them on Wednesday (or Monday). Thanks also to Rachel Mims for speaking and Latesha Dejean for doing the first issue of the Klub Krier. |
| Landscaping in Greensboro, pt. 2 |
We WILL be going to the Hale County Hospital again this Sunday, November 14. We'll meet at the Ferg at noon, then caravan down there. I'm not sure how long we'll be down there because I don't know what all they have left for us to do. Wear ugly clothes though because you might get dirty. |
| Fall Induction Banquet |
The plans have been finalized. On Friday, November 12, at 7pm, we will hold our Fall Induction Banquet at O'Charley's. The cost is $10 and 2 cans (or more) of food. Even though the main event is inducting new members, everyone is invited. Please come! |
| Requirements |
Don't forget that all requirements are due this Wednesday, November 3. For new members, it's $43, Stadium Clean-Up, Board Orientation (there's one this week after the meeting), New Member Orientation/Education Session, and at least 6 hours of service. For old members, your $43 dues are due on Wednesday. You must also continue to do service! |
| MER |
MER was a blast!!! Too bad for those of you who didn't go, but we sent 13 people. It was a lot of fun, and I think we all got several bites. Now it's time for a new conference - Y'all! It's MLKJr. weekend (January 14-16) in Huntsville, AL. You should check out the website, which has lots of other information: http://www.geocities.com/yallinalabama/. |
| Trunk or Treat |
We will be doing Trunk or Treat this year. It's where different organizations decorate a car trunk and have lots of candy. Kids from the YMCA then come out to this safe place to trick-or-treat. It will be Thursday, October 28, from 5:30-7:00pm in the Bruno's parking lot. Costumes are optional, but we'll be going to Bryce afterwards. |
| Landscaping in Greensboro |
We'll still be landscaping at the Hale County Hospital this Sunday. We're meeting at the Ferg at noon, then we'll drive down to Greensboro to meet the others and will work for a few hours. If you have a shovel, please bring it. If you're not going but have a shovel, please let Rachel W. know. |
| Car Wash |
Unfortunately, we will NOT be doing the car wash this Saturday. If you have not fulfilled your fundraiser requirement (Stadium Clean-Up), please talk to either Rachel Wehner or Amanda Amos. |
| Lots o' Stuff |
We lost our football game last night (boo), so we will unfortunately not be headed to the play-offs. Thanks to everyone who came out during the season to play and/or cheer us on. We plan on doing another sport or two in the spring, bowling and volleyball likely. Today was the deadline for MER. If you were not at the meeting and were planning on going, LET ME KNOW ASAP! Our 2 new members who won free registration last week will sadly not be attending, so we re-drew, and Jessica Pearce and Jason Spencer will now only be responsible for lodging. For those of you who were not able to Paint the Town Red, please go by and look at our window. We painted the UPS Store, which is in the Cold Stone/Firehouse Subs shopping center. Please also remember that next week (October 20) is the Kiwanis Family Reception. It will be at 7:30 at the Stallings Center (where RISE is), and dress is Sunday or business casual. We will be hearing from Kiwanis, Circle K, and Key Club, and there will of course be food. It'll be a good time. Lastly, t-shirt designs must be submitted by October 27. If you have an idea, either draw it or write it out, and turn it in within the next 2 weeks. There is no certain theme, but the design must be appropriate. |
| Football and MER |
So we won our football game last night, meaning if we win next week, we'll be in the play-offs! We need as many people out there next Tuesday at 7:30 as possible, whether you want to play or cheer. Please come out! Congratulations to Meagan Peters and Abby Grammer, our 2 new members who will have their MER registration paid for by the club; the other new members will get $30 off. Don't forget that the registration must be postmarked by next Wednesday, October 13. If you need a registration form, go to http://www.geocities.com/OrangeBeachMER/. Also, we will be "Painting the Town Red" on Monday. Meet at the Info Desk at 7:00 pm if you want to help. |
| Welcome |
Welcome to the new Circle K site! It's still slightly under construction, but it should be complete very soon. The Calendar page will be updated regularly, and this page will contain the newest info, so check back. |
