I. REFERENCES Your essay must contain footnotes (or endnotes) and a bibliography. Failure to cite your sources properly constitutes plagiarism which is a serious academic offense. A. Footnotes or endnotes 1 Michael Sullivan, The Arts of China, 3rd edition (Berkeley, Los Angeles and London: University of California Press, 1984), pp. 2-4.2 Laurence Sickman and Alexander Soper, The Art and Architecture of China, 3rd edition (New Haven and London: Yale University Press,1968; first published by Penguin Books, 1956), p. 56.3 Sullivan, p. 7.4 Raymond Bushell, "Shoko, An Untypical Netsuke Carver," Arts of Asia, vol. 13 no. 2 (March-April 1983), p. 58.B. Bibliography: the entries are arranged alphabetically according to the author's surname. Bushell, Raymond. "Shoko, An Untypical Netsuke Carver," Arts of Asia, vol. 13 no. 2 Sickman, Laurence and Soper, Alexander. The Art and Architecture of China, 3rd Sullivan, Michael. The Arts of China, 3rd edition. Berkeley, Los Angeles
II. ILLUSTRATIONS Integrate your illustrations into the body of your essay. eg. One of Zhao Mengfu's best-known works is his handscroll entitled Autumn Colors on the Qiao and Hua Mountains, dated equivalent to 1295, now in the collection of the National Palace Museum, Taipei (figure 1). The illustrations should be placed at the end of the essay with each image mounted on a separate piece of paper. Each illustration should be labelled with the following information: artist; title; format; media; date/dynasty. Give the source for each illustration as well.
III. OTHER •Be sure to give the dates of major periods or historical figures when they are first mentioned. e.g. One of the most important painters of the Wu school is Wen Zhengming (1470-1559). •Avoid excessive use of quotations as they can detract from the flow of your paper. Select quotations which will have the greatest impact. The most effective quotations are those which come from the period under study or are worded in a particularly interesting way. |
