Welcome to Critics' Pick

Imagine this scenario: You're walking around the quad, wondering what you're going to do with your weekend, when you see potential... Chalked on the sidewalk in big pastel blue letters... "Dance! Alabama Recital." Or "Into the Woods." Or "Student Cello Concert."

Hmmmm. Maybe.

You read a review by a 60-year-old professional theatre critic. They rave about it, but you can't relate to their assessment.

You ask your friends what they know about it. Not a thing.

What's a college student to do? You absolutely must know if you're going to like this performance before you plunk down your hard-earned work study cash for tickets.

Then it hits you, as if sung by angels from above: I'll check Critics' Pick!

Ahhh, yes. There you'll find your answer, in the form of reviews based on opening night performances. Written by students. And not just one student...many students.

Our merry band of critics is carefully selected from the student body based on their writing skills and trained by a professional critic so they know how to carefully analyze a performance. But they also are students just like you, chosen from varied fields across campus, with opinions you can relate to. All critics attend every performance, so you don't have to base your decision on one review. You can read several reviews of the same play or recital, written in a blog format.

And oh, look! Other students have engaged in a lively discussion about the performance in the comments. So now, you've discovered what several other students think of the performance and can make an informed decision.

You go. You love it! Or maybe you hate it. Either way, you must tell someone what you saw. Come back to Critics' Pick and comment yourself. Don't be shy. There are plenty of potential audience members out there dying to know what YOU think!
