CCC Flag |
Old habits die-hard. And so, here at UA,
whenever a bunch of students from the sub-continent find time to spare, playing cricket is
the first thing that comes to mind. Although UA has had a history of cricket for a number
of years, albeit unofficial, CCC or the Crimson Cricket Club was formed in 1997 and ever
since has been an active organisation at the university. |
The first
committee, led by Waleed Sayeed, Anand Bhandar, and Shahid
organized and hosted its first cricket tournament in October 1998. CCC, with a newly
formed team, played remarkably well and finished runners-up among five other teams from
Birmingham, Montgomery and Auburn. The team also won the best batsman (Tariq Khan)
and best bowler (Cyrus Janumala) awards.
The next committee took over in Fall 1999 under Natraj
Bhat and Ashish Kasangottuwar, with Dr. K. Krishnakumar as
the faculty advisor and also a member of the team. CCC took part in the First Annual
Cricket Tournament in March 2000 organised in Birmingham by Asia Cricket Club (ACC) and
sponsored by Hoover Therapeutics. This time the team finished third out of four
teams on Net Run Rate despite winning two games (in one day!) out of three with notable
performances by Sundeep Mukherjee, Padmanabhan Nair, Natraj Bhat
and Harpreet Singh. |
