Executive EdD Graduate Becomes College President
Dr. Austin Lane, a graduate of The University of Alabama’s EdD in Higher Education Administration Executive Cohort program was recently named the new president of the Montgomery arm of the Lone Star College System in Texas.

“I strongly believe that the quality and expertise of the faculty members in the higher education administration program at UA along with the scholarly discussions that took place among my peers in the executive cohort played a major role in my goal of wanting to become a community college president,” said Lane.

The Lone Star College System consists of five colleges and six academic centers making it the largest higher education institution in the Houston area and third largest community college system in Texas.

“Pursuing the EdD in Higher Education Administration was probably one of the best decisions I ever made. Overall, I was impressed with the quality of instruction, expertise and research interests of the faculty, and vast educational and administrative experiences of students in the executive cohort, and first-class facilities at The University of Alabama,” said Lane.

UA Awards 20 Osher Reentry Scholarships
The University of Alabama has awarded 20 tuition-only scholarships of $2,500 each through the Osher Reentry Scholarship Program.  These scholarships are made possible by a $50,000 grant from the Bernard Osher Foundation. The program assists students who have experienced a five-year or more interruption in their education and want to resume their undergraduate studies to complete their degrees.  The recipients were honored at a recent luncheon at UA’s Bryant Conference Center. Dr. Carolyn Dahl, dean of the College of Continuing Studies, presented the Osher Reentry Scholarships to the recipients.  Click here for more details...

UA Chosen for OSHA Training Institute Education Center
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration has chosen The University of Alabama as a site for one of its OSHA Training Institute Educational Centers.

OTI Education Centers provide training in a series of OSHA-designed safety and health courses to private-sector and federal personnel. The designation of UA as a Region IV site will bring this key training closer to companies in Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee.
