In addition to the competition, Crimson GRITS will have many oppurtunities to encourage an interest in engineering among pre-college students. The University of Albama College of Engineering hosts events each year which focus on presenting pre-college students with glimpses of the engineering world.
The College of Engineering hosts Engineering Week (E-Week) events in the spring. Crimson GRITS will participate in this year's Girl Scout Engineering Day coordinated by the University of Alabama student section of the Society of Women Engineers. Girl Scout Engineering Day allows middle school girls to explore activities related to science and engineering and introduces them to careers in engineering.
The College of Engineering also hosts Engineering Day (E-Day) each year in the fall. E-Day is an open house that provides high school students an introduction to the different engineering majors offered at the University of Alabama. During E-Day students, teachers, and parents tour the facilities and view presentations from several departments. Crimson GRITS team members gave a 10 minute presentation during the 2007 E-Day to present last year's Mini BajaŽ to attendees.
University of Alabama Makes Excellence Day (UAME Day), hosted by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. In this event students and their parents are introduced to the field of mechanical engineering through a design project, but they also see presentations of recent design/build projects by undergraduate students. UAME Day is held on campus once per semester. Crimson GRITS team members will give a short 10 - 15 minute presentation on our project including general information about the Mini BajaŽ competition and automotive design.
