Radioactive Waste Management
The Radiation Safety Program encourages users of Radioactive Material (RM) to have frequent waste pick-ups. All radioactive waste containers must be labeled as "solid" or "aqueous", with isotope and RSO number, activity as of reference date, generator, building, room number and the radiation hazard symbol. If you need additional labels, contact EHS (8-5905). Liquid waste must be in acceptable non-returnable containers. Milk cartons may NOT be used. With all waste pick-ups, submit the white copy of the Radioactive Material Approval, Usage and Disposal Record (RMAUDR) form and complete all paperwork before calling for a pick-up. If a pickup is needed prior to use of an entire RSO #, make a copy of the RMAUDR and retain the original until disposal of the entire RSO number lot.
To request a RM waste pick-up, call EHS and leave a message with the following information: name, phone number, building, room number and approximately how many containers/bags need to be removed. Your request will be posted, and an EHS representative will respond within three work-days.
