The Department of Biological Sciences, University of Alabama invites applications for Coordinator of the Optical Analysis Facility.

 The Optical Analysis Facility houses a new Hitachi H-7650 transmission electron microscope, a Hitachi S-2500 scanning electron microscope, a Leica TCS SP2 confocal laser scanning microscope, an Olympus CH30 light microscope equipped with image analysis software and ancillary equipment including a new Ultracut UC6 ultramicrotome, darkrooms, and other equipment for specimen preparation. 

Duties include scheduling, preparing samples, operating the microscopes, instruction in use of the equipment, oversight and routine equipment maintenance, and ordering and maintaining supplies. 

The successful candidate should have experience in  electron and confocal microscopy.  A person with a Master’s or Ph.D. degree and familiarity with light, confocal and electron microscopes and biological sample techniques is preferred, but a people with a Bachelor’s degree will be considered, depending on the extent of training and experience.
