GLASS KNIVES WITH LKB (LEICA) GLASS KNIFE BREAKER
- Wash strip of glass with soapy water and/or alcohol to remove grease and
dirt.
- Dry with clean lint free-cloth or lens paper. If glass is new strip, break
strip in half.
- Place glass with scored side up in knife maker and score.
- Turn breaking knob to break glass.
- To make glass square or parallelogram:
- Place glass in knife maker with factory score mark up so that the end
is resting against the arresting studs and the side is against the angle
setting plate. The angle setting plate should be set at 80° or 90°
.
- Lower clamping head and tighten slightly to secure glass in a level
position.
- Select scoring position marked with lines.
- Score glass by pulling scoring wheel across glass from back to front
with continuous smooth stroke.
- Score should be distinct but not heavy enough to produce splinters of
glass. Break glass by turning breaking knob clockwise slowly until glass
begins to break.
- After glass breaks, turn breaking knob fully counter-clockwise to initial
position.
- Lift clamping head and push scoring wheel toward back of knife breaker.
- To make glass knives:
- Hold glass square by upper right and lower left edges and turn square
over.
- Place square between supports with factory score mark down and break marks
on lower left and upper right sides of knife.
- For a parallelogram, the short diagonal position will be between the supports.
- Lightly touch the top of the glass square to hold it in position and slowly
move the sliding guides into position. Remove finger(s) from top of square
before sliding guides touch the edges of the glass to allow proper positioning
of square. Lower clamping head and tighten slightly to secure glass in a
level position.
- Select scoring position for 25-mm glass marked with a diamond and 25.
- Score glass by pulling scoring wheel across glass from back to front with
continuous smooth stroke.
- Score marks should be no more than 0.2 mm away from the upper left and
lower right edges of center line.
- Move damping pad into place until it just touches lower edge of glass
square but does not move it toward back of knife breaker.
- Place 1 or 2 drops of dH2O along score line.
- Turn breaking knob slowly until glass begins to break.
- After glass breaks, turn breaking knob fully counter-clockwise to initial
position.
- Remove damping pad. Lift clamping head and push scoring wheel toward back
of knife breaker.
- Place knife lifting tool under glass knives.
- Release sliding guides.
- The upper edge of the left triangle and the lower edge of the right triangle
are the knives.
- These edges should not be touched.
