Ashley Phares
Meet our young scientific wizard-in-training, and the Hermione of The Worm Shack! The fair Ms. Phares is one of only 50 National Coca-Cola Scholars and has her sights set on dental school. A Blount Scholar, University Honors student, accomplished singer and Harry Potter freak extraordinarie, Ashley is currently slaying the lurking basilisk that afflicts 1.5 million Americans known as Parkinson's disease with a combination of genetic enginnering and theatrical flair! Of course, The Shack is the Hogwarts of Alabama and we are pleased this talented young lady is casting a spell or two on our worms.
Stacey Fox
Now, can you guess that this lovely young woman is from some place actually warmer then Alabama? Our second favorite "Fox" (sorry, Michael J. rules in da Shack!), Stacey is clearly a little used to the Florida sunshine of Tampa! A senior triple major in Biology, Spanish, and Psychology, a University Honors student and National Merit Scholar, Stacey has is an avid Crimson Tide and GFP worm fan. She really loves making worm plates (good, because her boss doesn't remember how to) and is currently dealing a knockout punch (via RNAi) to dystonia and Parkinson's diease. Stacey is not waiting for vet school to teach old dogs new tricks and has also spent siginficant time potentially discovering unforeseen new uses for existing drugs.
Adam "Deuce" Knight
A football fanatic-turned gene jock, this is senior Biology major from Brookwood (via Lebanon) is doing his part as a "walk-on" to our Crimson Tide of research teams! Having rescued Adam from a career of burger flippling, we most happily have this dedicated and talented young man putting his efforts to a higher purpose. As his photo shows, the mild-mannered Mr. Knight frequently tranforms into "SuperDeuce", where he puts his powers of perspiration toward saving the world to rid it of the injustice that is Parkinson's disease! Up, up, and away!
