Hello from below…far, far below.

So, howdy all. I’m very pleased to see you all here tonight…hope you’re enjoying your pizza, the semester, yada yada yada. Welcome to our third meeting for the year. Listen, sorry for the shoddy quality of this newsletter, but, you know, with proration and all, the money just isn’t where it was earlier this semester. Thank you, Alabama government. I think we should start calling this the University of the Alumni, since that’s who’s funding us now anyway. We can still be U of A, or UA, and we can hold on to the “crimson tide” image…it can be a symbol of our sacrificial blood, the blood that once kept our brains alive, offered for the good of the bureaucracy that can’t add.

Anyway, back to the issue of the newsletter. One of the first things to go was our in-house onion writer…gone like all the other influential people in my life. To make up for this void of humor (and, at least for me, a father figure), Ryan has been kind enough to (indirectly) offer some quality entertainment, despite the lack of a profit margin (and he's a business major... ha!). Fortunately, we could still afford to pay Bill Watterson this issue…he’s a surprisingly inexpensive contributor. And I bet you thought cartoonists made some real money. Jeez, it’s lucky I’m in charge of this newsletter and not you. I also pay homage and offer thanks to Dr. Suess, hero to the downtrodden snoozles and whatsits and moneylessies.

Let’s just get started with this thing (we can’t waste too much paper or ink. Paper and ink don’t grow on trees, you know. At least paper doesn’t. I’m sure of that.). So here it comes. Directly affiliated with the University Honors Program (UHP), HPSA is a student-run group, maintaining honors students involvement with each other, their faculty, and their community in activities, both social and academic. Every meeting is on the first Tuesday of every month, September through April, and is at 9 p.m. in the lobby of New Hall, our Honors Dorm. To officially join, call or visit the UHP office in Temple Tutwiler Hall (348-5554).

As well as this newsletter, which I am in charge of, Raman Sehgal (nephew to Stephen, so don’t mess with him) maintains this very HPSA website, which has some random ramanisms, some old newsletters, and some officer info, so check it out.

If you have any comments, suggestions, or submissions about or for our program, newsletter, or website, send us some email (hpsa@bama.ua.edu) If you can’t get enough of HPSA activities and news you’re free to join our mailing list as well by sending an email to listserv@bama.ua.edu, with only “SUBSCRIBE UHP-L” written in your message. Now that the trite dialogue is finished, here’s the original stuff. Thanks for letting me vent a little.
