Count Your MANY Blessings

The money donated by HPSA members has been put to good use in India! As you all know, one of the worst earthquakes ever shook India on Jan 26th. Amhedabah, HPSA member Amitabh Shah's hometown, was the hardest hit. The earthquake took 40,000 lives and injured over 100,000; many were buried alive by destroyed buildings.

The money we raised, $172, went to a man named Darshan, a clerk, and his elderly mother, who are distant relatives of Amitabh. They were in their apartment at the time and managed to climb down a rope and escape. The destruction of the building killed 110 out of the 150 people that lived there. Darshan and his mother are very lucky, though they lost everything they owned. Insurance is almost unheard of in India. Our money will go to help them get back on their feet. They express their sincere thanks to the Honors Students at the University of Alabama.
