LV031/080 |

According
to GM, this "song from The Stranger. The words by R. B. Sheridan.
The air by the Duchess of Devonshire." In LV, several
versions are titled "Favorite Song in the Stranger".
LV031/080 is the version closest to that described in GM (though different
key). Here is an arrangement
(in correct key) with two verses. |

LV115/115 |

There are several versions of this song in LV, search on "adieu
my only life" in 1st line. LV115/115 appears
to me to be the most like the Austen version. Here
is an arrangement. More information on Dibdin as a composer of
patriotic songs and Soldier's Adieu is available at ParlourSongs.com
For another interesting view of this song, look at an original
publication of the words on the Revolution
and Romanticism site.
According to GM, the word 'Soldier' has been replaced with 'Sailor'
in the Austen notebook (and it is customary to use Sailor in performance.)
(As you know, Austen's brothers were in the navy.) |

'I

very like that described in GM, but different key. |

GM7:20
LV119/048 |

The
version in LV looks to me to be an arrangement of a later time than
Austen. But it is the only version of the song I have yet found
online. Also called 'LampLighter Dick". |
