Case Name: Johnnie K. BAXSTROM v. HEROLD

US SUPREME COURT
Baxstrom was Prisoner, in a Department of Corrections
psychiatric hospital; Civilly committed. at end of sentence, but left in
DOC hospital because DMH didn't want him. Writs were dismissed, request
for transfer denied. Supreme Court said he was denied equal protection.
Other Civil committees had right to hearing, he didn't; also he was in
prison after End of sentence. Led to "Operation Baxstrom."
NOT SAME AS NGRI (Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity).
