Def:The simultaneous use of more than one medication from the same class of drugs.

This is generally useless, like drinking vodka and gin together, but is not automatically improper care. Needs careful documentation to justify. In Alabama state hospitals, usual practice is to get at least a second opinion, after multiple single drugs have failed.

Use of two drugs of different classes is NOT polypharmacy.
