This data summarizes information from 14 different forensic hospitals. It is the first on-line database for comparisons of the services and quality given by forensic hospitals.

Because the laws governing facilities for the mentally ill offender vary widely, comparison must be limited. The length of stay show here is based on both evaluation and treatment patients; this will be separated in future studies.

Information was gathered on escapes, but these are so rare that correlations are useless.

No material was gathered on budgets or professional ratios, but I would like to share this as it is available.

Formulas were calculated as follows: seclusion/restraint rate = Hours in seclusion or restraint / [(total patient days x 24 hours)/1000 hours]

Frequency/other rates = Number of incidents/ [(total patient days)/1000]
