SUMMER 2003:

AMRAT: The Rapid Assessment Team for Mobile Bay.
DAUPHIN ISLAND SEA LAB
SEPTEMBER 2-5 2003

This rapid assessment team was a wonderful experience to an introduction of the environments in Mobile Bay. The goal of this team was to provide with a snapshot of invasive species in the area. Specialists in many areas (around 50 scientists) analyzed hundreds of samples ranging from the delta to the offshore, from the wetland vegetation to the bottom of the oil rigs. Algae were collected in many sites including the marshes and the offshore oil rigs by diving. This assessment gave us an incredible opportunity to have, in a short period of time, a more complete vision of the Alabama coast. These habitats were representatives of a marine benthic algal community in the North Central Gulf of Mexico. Our results are going to be presented in the incoming Southeastern Phycological meeting!

Thanks to Dr. K. Heck (Dauphin Island Sea Lab) and D. Sturm (National Estuary Program, Mobile) for this incredible invitation!
