ARTS & SCIENCES NIHONGO WEB PROJECT
Nihongo (Japanese language) Web is a new high school/college level Japanese culture and language course offered through the University of Alabama, Department of Modern Languages & Classics and the College of Continuing Studies. Since Nihongo Web is completely asynchronous, students can begin at any time and finish at their own pace. The first, second, and third levels are equivalent to JA 101, 102, and 201 respectively.
Language materials are presented entirely online. Japanese culture is presented in essay and web links. Students practice speaking skills by contacting Japanese tutors each week by using the Internet or telephone. The web camera, whiteboard, and microphone allow students to talk and interact in real time face-to-face with tutors. Students interact with each other via e-mail and post assignments in the message forum and chat areas on Nihongo Web’s Student Lobby.
Nihongo Web welcomes applications from students from Japan who would like to be tutors. More information about the position is available from Laurie Arizumi (205-348-0552).
More information about Nihongo Web is available at the web site http://www.as.ua.edu/nihongo, or contact Laurie Arizumi, Nihongo Web instructor, curriculum and web designer directly at:
