      Artist autumn comes,
      Paints her blush across each tree,
      Drops palette, and leaves.

2nd Place: Marshall Humphries - Tuscaloosa, Alabama
      An early winter,
      A flower between pages,
      Wilted, long ago.

3rd Place: Olene Barron - Troy, Alabama
      Golden harvest time,
      Shadows long as memories,
      Yet the war goes on!

4th Place: Jeanne Lowe - Mobile, Alabama
      Autumn's earth is warm.
      Brown pelicans glide across
      Sun glistening waves.


Junior High and High School Category

1st Place: Evan Harvey - Madison, Alabama
      Tiny hummingbird
      Zipping amongst the flowers
      Pauses for a sip.

2nd Place: Kellie Franks - Birmingham, Alabama
      Power lines; a flock
      Of canaries sit watching
      As people pass by.

3rd Place: Amy Metz - Birmingham, Alabama
      Her cheeks are flushed pink,
      Her smile beams radiantly,
      He slips the ring on.

4th Place: Thomas Picardy - Birmingham, Alabama
      The lion creeps up
      To its unsuspecting prey.
      So shall death find us.

Elementary School Category
(Grades 4-6)

1st Place: Michael Washington - Tuscaloosa, Alabama
      Ash is in L.A.
      From lots of burning buildings
      People were fighting.

2nd Place: Jessie Williams - Birmingham, Alabama
      Moonlight on the sea,
      Glittering like a white pearl,
      Gleaming in the night.

3rd Place: Yashica Jordan - Tuscaloosa, Alabama
      White clouds fill the air
      Blinding snow covers the ground
      The air is golden.

4th Place: Kenneth Lipp - Birmingham, Alabama
      Night, a velvet sheet
      Covering the sleeping world,
      Till the golden dawn.

Elementary School Category
(Grades 1-3)

1st Place: Kristine Miller - Tuscaloosa, Alabama
      Rain that sparkles fine,
      As it glimmers off the tree,
      Like strings of bright gold.

2nd Place: Allison Terry - Tuscaloosa, Alabama
      Digging in the dirt,
      My dog is named Licorice
      He's as black as ash.

3rd Place: Florene Dixon - Birmingham, Alabama

      Flowers on the ground,
      Blowing in the breezy wind,
      Whirling all around.

4th Place: Mary Bickley Silberberg - Tuscaloosa, Alabama
     Winter comes again.
      Padding on soft little feet.
      Quiet quiet, Shh!

Adult Category

1st Place: Mitsuko Miyagawa - Tuscaloosa, Alabama
      A camellia drops.
      Its life still intact;
      Spring storm rushes in.

2nd Place: Suzushi Kanamori - Narashino City, Japan
      With a solemn look,
      The pregnant cat walks
      Toward cherry trees in bloom.

3rd Place: Momoyo Katsu - Hiroshima, Japan
      Flower petals
      Cling to stepping stones.
      Should I tread on them?

4th Place: Ako Dill - Fayette, Alabama
      Winter-camellias bloom.
      In my letter, I wrote everything
      I wanted to say.

Children's Category

1st Place: Nobuhito Nagata - Narashino City, Japan
      A snow scene exists
      On the other side of the window
      Frost clouds my view.

2nd Place: Yuichiro Akimoto - Narashino City, Japan
      Can you see?
      At the finger tip of the limb,
      I see a baby cherry flower.

3rd Place: Yuri Hayase - Narashino City, Japan
      Snow!
      I see the rabbit's ears...
      In-sight, now out-of-sight.

      Spring winds
      Carry cherry petals
      Down to the stream.
