      Floating soap bubble
      Rising without direction
      Above giggling hands.

3rd Place: Regina Garson - Huntsville, Alabama
      Daffodil young green
      Until strength bright surrender
      To birch peel demise.

4th Place: Rebecca Dosch - Chiba, Japan
      Sheepishly poking
      Its red face through a wire fence --
      Unpicked tomato.


Honorable Mention

Leon and Marcy Weinberger - Tuscaloosa, Alabama
      The startled buck leaps
      As human scents waft on wind,
      He hides among leaves.

Junior High and High School Category

1st Place: Rebecca Findley - McCalla, Alabama
      Standing in a field,
      A tree solemnly awaits,
      The knock of an ax.

2nd Place: Shannon Robertson - Huntsville, Alabama
      Youth; wasted, lost, gone
      A bird vanishing from sight
      As time passes on.

3rd Place: Tameka Sandlin - Brookwood, Alabama
      Many white speckles,
      Fluttering in the gray sky,
      Blankets the roof top.

Elementary School Category
(Grades 4-6)

1st Place: Lindsey Miller - Greensboro, Alabama
      The young bluebird chirps
      It trys to fly but falls down
      Worms will be his lunch.

2nd Place: Mike Bishop - Tuscaloosa, Alabama

      The big river flows
      Like a huge shivering snake
      Winding to the sea.

3rd Place: Lashonda Sledge - Tuscaloosa, Alabama

      The moon shines brightly
      So you can see through the night
      That things are all right.

4th Place: Lindsay Mills - Tuscaloosa, Alabama
      Sunset colors bright...
      Walk on the beach, happy times,
      The wind blows softly.

Elementary School Category
(Grades 1-3)

1st Place: Julia Apodaca - Tuscaloosa, Alabama
      I can't tie this shoe,
      In this little house right now,
      Mother comes to help.

2nd Place: Taylor Shepherd - Birmingham, Alabama
      Backyard after school
      A lizard crawled up the wall
      The dog ran to it.

3rd Place: Jessica Green - Brookwood, Alabama
      Rumbling and grumbling,
      Loud crashing fireworks at night.
      The lightning scares me.

4th Place: Brad Acton - Birmingham, Alabama
     A child chased a frog
     Around his house's front yard
     At two o'clock sharp.

      Baby bird in spring
      Plays in the flowers and trees.
      What about winter?

      Although it is old,
