      A mockingbird sings
      Moonlight silvers cat whiskers
      Dozing she listens.

2nd Place: Rebecca Dosch - Tuscaloosa, Alabama
      The purple thistle
      Still smells like you, though pressed flat
      For years in this book.

3rd Place: Maggie Pickett - Birmingham, Alabama
      String of cranes on high
      Eyes on corn fields yellow grain
      Borne on winds unseen.

4th Place: Judith Anderson - Leeds, Alabama
      Hot sun on water;
      Diamonds in foam bathe the shore.
      A child dips his toe.


Honorable Mention

      Frost on the window
      A wrinkled face gazing out
      Wanting company.

      Daisies all around
      We sit swallowed among them
      Indigo above.

      Days without you lie
      Plain and listless on the sill
      Like a warm cat's yawn.

      A delicate hand
      The rain plays in my hair
      Mixing with my tears.

      Dreams are a river.
      True ones never stop flowing.

      Dressage is a dance,
      One person and one dream horse,
      Moonlight my spotlight.

2nd Place: Timothy Worley - Tuscaloosa, Alabama
      Sky, ocean of air
      With wispy white messagers,
      Bringing rain to us.

3rd Place: Rachel Corona - Hoover, Alabama
      Thousands of pansies
      Stretching across the meadows
      Multicolored quilts.

4th Place: Kahra Rogers - Bessemer, Alabama

      Roosters cockle-doo
      Eating corn flakes at first light
      Then the day begins.

      Look out the window.
      Tree are rustling in the breeze.
      Like wind chimes ringing.

      Spotted ladybug,
      Crawls across the bright green leaf,
      Then it chews its lunch.

      Twirling leaves fall down
      Flowers dancing in the sun
      Whirling Twirling bees.

      Love is in the air
      The air is bitter and sweet

      I warmed

      Young cherries bloom.

      Frosted morning;
      Bugs, frozen to death,
      Sad shade of red.

      Mother is there,
      With the chowder pot lid.
      Steam shoots up.
