      Poems are my home;
      Haikus those rare visitors
     That quicken the heart.

3rd Place: Rose Marie Stutts - Tuscaloosa, Alabama

     Stooping from the sky

     Red-tailed hawk in the city!

     --Tai Chi forgotten.

4th Place: Tammie Spain - Northport, Alabama
      Teardrops fall downward
      Eyes glistening look upward
      Daughter's wedding day.

      Brown cattails quiver
      Geese honk of their winter home

     Want to play hopscotch
     Jumping on squares on the ground
     Ouch! I fell again .

2nd Place: Nicole Luo - Birmingham, Alabama

     I am jumping rope
     Bouncing higher than the sky.
     Time to go inside.
 
3rd Place: Richard Bass - Birmingham, Alabama

     The Well: so active,
     The cicadas charge this way,
     The rain soon pelts down.


4th Place: Michaela Senft - Birmingham, Alabama

     Snow leaps from the sky
     It's like a ballerina
     It's as cold as ice, Burr!

     Clouds cry frozen tears
     Then snow melts into water.

     Watching kids hop in puddles
     I stay in and watch

2nd Place: Katelyn Hallman - McCalla, Alabama
     Huge waves crashed on shore.
     Salty waves recede slowly.
     Sandy children play.

3rd Place: Tommie Garner - Cottondale, Alabama
     Dark, gloomy forest.
     Horned owls fly swooping field mice.
     Still deer munch on leaves.


High School

1st Place: Geoffrey Ward - Scottsboro, Alabama
     Pristine clear wonder
     Salty yet you shine like gold
     Ocean, come to me.

2nd Place: Dalyon Clever - Scottsboro, Alabama
     School is memorable
     In the lonely old rusty
     Seats. It owns no one.

3rd Place: Whitney Fields - Tuscaloosa, Alabama

     Polka dot Pebbles
     Desire little playful hands
     Of anxious children.

     Silently sighing
     Butterfly wings move lightly
     Disturbing the peace.
