For Students

The Association of International Education, Japan (AIEJ) offers scholarships and applications to students enrolling at universities in Japan between April and March. AIEJ scholarships can assist UA students accepted to study at Chiba University, Nagoya Institute of Technology, and Kansai Gaidai University. The AIEJ offers two kinds of scholarship. They are called AIEJ Short-term Student Exchange Promotion Program Scholarship (AIEJ Scholarship) and AIEJ Short-term Student Exchange Promotion Program Peace and Friendship Scholarship (AIEJ Peace and Friendship Scholarship).

According to the AIEJ, the number of scholarships available next year is approximately 640 for the AIEJ Scholarship and 1,060 for the AIEJ Peace and Friendship Scholarship. The major distinctions between the two scholarships are 1) the amount of the AIEJ scholarship is 80,000 yen per month, and that of the AIEJ Peace and Friendship Scholarship is 100,000 yen per month; and 2) students from Asia-Pacific Rim countries are eligible for both scholarships, but students from non-Asia-Pacific Rim countries are eligible only for the AIEJ Scholarship. The 50,000 yen one-time settling-in allowance and a round-trip ticket are provided to the recipients of both scholarships.

Students from Asia and Pacific Rim countries may apply either for the AIEJ Scholarship or the AIEJ Peace and Friendship Scholarship, but will not be able to apply for both scholarships simultaneously. According to an AIEJ guideline, it is preferable for students who apply for the AIEJ Peace and Friendship Scholarship to stay for about 10 months. Students enrolling in programs for one full academic year therefore meet the AIEJ guideline. Students who apply for the AIEJ Peace and Friendship Scholarship are expected to promote mutual understanding and friendship during their stay in Japan by participating in activities sponsored by local communities and city government, etc. Upon completion of stay, students are asked to submit to the AIEJ a report based upon their experience. Deadline for application at the UA is April 1, for Fall Enrollment and August 1, for Spring Enrollment.
