 Samantha finished 3 years of
teaching English, international relations, and culture to junior high
schools in the 兵庫県新宮 (Shingu,
Hyogo） area for the JET
program, and is coming back to Alabama this summer.

| Jennifer Butler (graduated 2001-Jet Program) becomes ALT coordinator at Hamamatsu Shizuoka-ken |
Jennifer Butler passed the Japanese proficiency exam 2級
last year. She has been teaching English at 静岡県浜松市(Hamamatsu, Shizuoka.）.
She will be starting her 3rd (and final) year of the JET program from August. From the end of 1学期, she will be the "ALT Coordinator" at the Board of Education at Hamamatsu city. She will be helping the supervisor, and corresponding with 18 ALTs in the area this year.
She will be finished with JET and coming home next August (2004). In
the future, she is planning to go to graduate school for further study of
Japanese.

Frances Hartwell studied at
沖縄県琉球大学
(Ryukyu University in Okinawa)
as a Fulbright scholar. She is now a graduate student at Princeton
University. This summer she is interning in Washington D.C. for her
research.

先生、 お久しぶりですね。お元気でしょうか？日本の天気は時に嫌ですね！ご存知のとおり、梅雨は大変です。雨がよく降るし、それに雨が降らない日は圧倒的に蒸し暑いです。両親によると、最近ジョージア州にも雨がいっぱいふるそうです。アラバマ州はどうでしょうか？ 
昨日、広大でゆかた祭りがありました。大勢の人がゆかたを着て、集まって、色んな食べ物を食べたり、ビールを飲んだりしました。すごく楽しかったです。ところで、学校は7月31日まで終わらないのです。後一ヶ月ぐらいですね。学校が終わってからアラバマ大学が始まるまでの間は余り長くないですね。まだ帰りたくないんだけど奨学金はなくなっちゃうからしょうがない。アメリカへ帰って、アラバマ大学で勉強を続けるつもりです。 卒業する前に日本へ戻って来たいから、今度は文部省の試験を受けたいんですよ。

Well,
I hope everyone enjoyed reading how our alumni, friends, and students
are doing now. I want more people to write about what they are doing in the
next issue. For alumni, I want to let you know more about what is
going on in the Japanese Program and UA campus. (We have SUSHI  in
the Ferguson Center now!). Also, I sometimes receive phone
calls from Japanese companies when new jobs are open, I would like to
know who is available in certain times and places. Please keep in
touch!
