Campus Resources

The Center for Academic Success (CAS) has some resources to help you with organic chemistry. Walk-in sessions for 232 are held in 106 Gorgas

  • Monday: 8 AM-1 PM and 5-8 PM
  • Tuesday: 6-9 PM
  • Wednesday: 8 AM-12 PM and 5-9 PM
  • Thursday: 5-7 PM

Study sessions will be held MWF from 3-4 PM in 1092 Shelby. These sessions are hosted by Parker and will review class material.

A list of chemistry graduate that are available for hire as tutors is available on the Chemistry Department web site.

Study Guides

Study guides will be posted approximately one week before each exam.

Old Exams

The exams below were used in fall 2010. They will give you an idea of the types of questions that I ask. They are most useful if you use them as a practice test after you have studied for an exam. It will be most useful if you work the exam without the key. Use the key to check your answers once you've worked the entire exam.

Note that these exams are based on a different book and the order of coverage is different. See study guide for suggested old exam problems to work for each exam this semester.

Book Problems

A majority of the problems in the book are replicated in OWL. The link below will provide a list of additional questions that are not in OWL that would be good preparation for the exam. I encourage you to work these as you prepare for the exams.

Web-based Study Aids

There are some excellent resources on the Web which allow you to practice extra problems or read up on problem areas. I highly recommend that you take advantage of these, particularly the practice problems. The only way in my opinion to understand organic chemistry is to work a lot of problems, besides some of these sites are really cool.

One note of caution: Often tutorial sites will cover concepts that we have not talked about. Don't get stressed out about this. If I have not talked about a concept in class, then you don't need to know it.

Find a cool Organic Chemistry web site? If so, send me the link so that I can share it with your classmates.
