GOD OF THE VINE
A silver stater from the city of Nagidos (modern Bozyazę) in Cilicia of southern Asia Minor, 380-360 B.C. The OBVERSE shows Aphrodite enthroned left offering out of patera over a lighted altar, while Eros places a wreath over her from behind. The REVERSE has Dionysos standing and holding a vine branch with a grape cluster in his extended right hand. He is resting his left hand on a thyrsus, flanked by the inscription NAGIDEWN.
