Aegeus at the Oracle
Aegeus at the oracle of Delphi, asking Themis for advice how to overcome his infertility. Themis was an old, respected divinity of the oracle. She sits on the tripod, and gives the response. She holds a laurel branch and a phiale (flat bowl), the typical things to do when giving an oracle (i.e., chewing laurel leaves and drinking water from the sacred spring). The names are inscribed.
