Aethra Freed from Helen
When Troy fell Theseus' sons, Akamas and Demophon, freed Aethra, their grandmother, who had been Helen's slave at Troy. Here Aethra is represented as a very old lady, hunched over, holding her grandson, who looks back full of care, and leads her carefully by the hand. Her other grandson walks behind, looking back to make sure they are not being followed. [krater, 500 B.C., London, British Museum]
