Rhesus
When Odysseus and Diomedes
learned from Dolon the arrival of the Thracian
king Rhesus, with enormous wealth and many
horses, they decided to go to his camp. They snuck in during
the night, and killed Rhesus in his sleep, and
12 of his companions, and stole his horses. In the upper part of the painting
Rhesus and the Thracians are represented sleeping,
while Odys. with sword in hand absconds with
two horses, by the reins. Diomedes to the left
with sword in hand signal Odys. to follow. [krater 350]
