Note
some points of interest on this map. Around Athens the region is called “Attica”, while the region around Thebes has the name “Boeotia”. Find the city of Dodona (site of Zeus’ talking oak tree) in Epirus, on the left.
In Thessaly, in north-central Greece, one would find Mt. Olympus, but note the Olympia the town, where the games were held, is in the Peloponnese. Alexander the Great came from Northern Greece, which has the name Macedonia. The political center for the Macedonian Greeks was Pella, shown here.
