L&D SRIG Session at 2012 NAfME Biennial Conference in St. Louis, Missouri

Thursday March 29, 2012 from 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Development of Music Communication in Relationship to Cultural and Social Contexts in Children and Adults with Disabilities.
Description
This session will focus on issues and development in music communication including ways through which children and adults communicate about music. The presenters, leading researchers in the field, will examine ways children with and without disabilities learn from each other through social and cooperative experiences in inclusive classrooms, as well as how one's cultural context affects musical interactions in such forms as memory and cognition. The presenters will demonstrate how current research findings can best inform educators’ practices in music education classrooms and how children with and without disabilities may demonstrate musical understanding. They will also provide data regarding how music cognition and memory is influenced and affected by the listener’s cultural context.
