Monazite Comparison Samples:

A number of one inch round slides with grains from four large monazites are available to laboratories performing (or attempting to perform) electron microprobe dating (CHIME) of minerals.  The slides are available free of charge provided the recipient agrees to analyze the grains (by EMP or other method) and report the results to me (Mike Bersch).

The goals are (1) to characterize the age (and major element chemistry) of the samples so that they might be used in setup procedures and as internal checks;
 and  (2) investigate these samples as possible inter-laboratory comparison samples.

    Use the following links for current data on the monazites:
    Elk Mountain, New Mexico
    Iveland, Norway
    Torrington, New South Wales, Australia

Jefferson County, Colorado
