Introduction |
You and your classmates have received a request from the advertising firm of Sheffield and Brooks to interview top advertising students for positions with their firm. Benefits from the job include: company corvette, condo at the beach, 2 month paid vacation in the Bahamas, and unlimited cell phone use.

Task |
Both plant and animal cells are very complex. For some students, trying to remember which organelles can be found where and what their specific functions are can be a difficult task. Your task will be to prepare an advertising sample for the partners at Sheffield and Brooks. This Web Quest will help students understand how a cell functions by developing a commercial which "sells" a selected organelle from a plant or animal cell.
Process
1. First step is to get into groups of four.
2. Each group will be assigned a specific organelle to research.
3. Next, each member in a group will choose a specific role that he or she would like to play in the making of a commercial.
4. Each role must complete their requirements.
5. After each role has completed the requirements, the team must bring all ideas together in a PowerPoint presentation of an organelle commercial advertisement.
6. The commercial should be 5-7 minutes long.
7. Commercials should be an advertisement for your organelle. Your organelle will be chosen by a blind draw.
8. Commercials should be creative and interesting.
9. Commercials should make reference to the following:
The organelle's name
The organelle's function and how it works with other cell parts to function correctly
Is the organelle part of an animal or plant cell or both?
What about your organelle's function would you consider makes it more important than other organelles?

Conclusion
After the completion of this Web Quest, you should have a greater understanding of various organelles. Hopefully, the use of PowerPoint presentations allowed you to see cells and organelles in a whole new prospective. You not only learned about organelles and PowerPoint presentations; but you also got a chance to actually play a specific role within a team. And if you have not realized already, the organelles in the cell work as a team. Because of this reason, it may have been somewhat difficult for you to show that one organelle is better than another organelle. Just like one group member is not better than another group member, all group members are important and have a specific tasks to complete.
